New MOOC For Online Instructors in D2L!

Posted on April 1, 2015 by

A new MOOC is being offered for D2L users in the Learning Center, called “Effective Practices for Teaching.”  A MOOC is an “massively open” online course, for many learners to utilize at once.  This one is limited to 500 users, so register as soon as possible!

Please note: You’ll see the term “Brightspace Learning Environment” in relation to this course.  “Brightspace” is the new branding for the D2L Learning Environment, so it is the system we use.

Some of the details of the MOOC include:

  • Four Content Modules:
    1. Communications tools; including social media
    2. Release Conditions; creating pathways for students
    3. Intelligent Agents; why, when, and how to use them
    4. Student-centered tools; including D2L Wiggio and D2L Binder
  • Activity-based modules:
    • Each module contains activities to reinforce the learning
    • Participants will each have a private D2L sandbox course to work in
    • Activities can be accomplished by newcomers to D2L or seasoned veterans
  • Mix or match
    • You can complete any or all of the four content modules
    • You can complete the content modules in any order, although we prefer the order in which they are offered
    • You can complete this MOOC in four weeks by spending 2-3 hours per week with the content and activities.
    • Although intended as a four week course, the course will remain open indefinitely for your continued learning efforts.
